I am planning my first three-week backpacking trip across Europe this summer and I am really struggling to keep my luggage under the carry-on limit. I want to avoid checking a bag to save time and money, but I am worried about having enough outfits for different weather conditions and settings. Does anyone have a proven capsule wardrobe strategy or advice on how to manage laundry while traveling between cities? Any tips on specific gear or packing techniques would be greatly appreciated.

It is 100% feasible! I did three weeks last summer with a 40L backpack. The key is to pack for one week and plan to do laundry once a week at a local laundromat or sink-wash your quick-dry items.

Don't overpack! Stick to a neutral color palette so everything matches. If you find yourself needing a break from the crowds, check out these secluded beaches in Greece to recharge.

Packing cubes are a game changer. They compress your clothes and keep your bag organized so you aren't digging through everything to find a clean pair of socks.

I always bring a travel-sized bottle of laundry detergent. Sink washing is super easy if you bring lightweight, moisture-wicking fabrics rather than heavy cotton.

If you are traveling by train, you will thank yourself for the carry-on. Before you finalize your route, you might want to see if an Interrail pass is worth it for your specific itinerary.

Focus on layers! A light rain jacket, a fleece, and a few t-shirts will cover most weather variations you'll encounter in Europe during the summer.

Wear your heaviest items on the plane—boots and your jacket—so they don't take up precious space in your carry-on.

The 'Rule of Three' works for me: one pair of pants/shorts to wear, one to wash, and one spare. You really don't need as many outfits as you think.

Look for hostels or apartments that offer laundry facilities. It adds an hour to your day once a week, but it saves so much stress and luggage weight.

I stopped bringing 'just in case' items years ago. If you really need something specific, you can buy it in Europe. It's actually a fun souvenir!

Merino wool is expensive but worth every penny. It is odor-resistant and dries incredibly fast, which is perfect for a multi-week backpacking trip.

Don't stress too much! Europe has plenty of shops. As long as you have your passport and your credit card, you can figure out the rest as you go.
