I am planning my first trip to Western Europe for 14 days this coming summer and I’m feeling overwhelmed by the number of options. I want to hit the major highlights like London, Paris, and Amsterdam, but I’m worried about spending too much time in transit between cities. Does anyone have a realistic itinerary that balances sightseeing with actual downtime? Any tips on the best rail passes or regional travel hacks would be greatly appreciated.

For a 14-day trip, stick to the Eurostar route. Spend 5 days in London, 5 in Paris, and 4 in Amsterdam. It’s a classic loop and minimizes travel fatigue.

Don't overbook your days! I recommend a 3-3-3 rule: no more than three major sights, three meals, and three hours of transit per day to keep your sanity.

Check out this guide on budget-friendly European destinations if you want to swap one of the big cities for something a bit cheaper and less crowded.

Book your Eurostar tickets as far in advance as possible. Prices skyrocket closer to your departure date, and booking direct is almost always cheaper than a rail pass for this specific route.

Pack light. Dragging a massive suitcase through the Paris Metro or over Amsterdam's cobblestone bridges will ruin your trip. A carry-on backpack is your best friend.

Don't try to see everything. Pick two 'must-dos' per city and leave the rest of the time for wandering. That's where the real magic of Europe happens.

Avoid flying between these cities. Between airport security and travel time to/from the city center, the train is faster, cheaper, and infinitely more relaxing.

For Amsterdam, stay slightly outside the canal ring to save money and get a better night's sleep. The public transport system there is incredibly efficient.

Consider getting a multi-city flight (open jaw) so you fly into London and out of Amsterdam. It saves you an entire day of backtracking.

Summer can be brutal with heat and crowds. Prioritize early morning sightseeing to beat the queues, then take a long lunch break during the hottest part of the day.
