Seeking recommendations for secluded, off-the-beaten-path beaches in Greece

My partner and I are planning a trip to Greece this summer, but we are hoping to avoid the typical overcrowded tourist hotspots. We are looking for hidden coves or quiet beaches where we can enjoy the crystal clear water in relative solitude, ideally accessible by hike or boat. Could anyone recommend some lesser-known gems, perhaps on the smaller islands or the less visited parts of the mainland? Any tips on how to reach these spots or what to bring for a day trip would be greatly appreciated.

Try checking out the island of Folegandros. Many of the beaches there require a bit of a hike, but the solitude is absolutely worth it. Make sure to bring plenty of water and a good hat!

If you want to avoid crowds, look into the southern coast of Crete. Places like Agiofarago are reached via a beautiful gorge hike. It feels like another world compared to the busy resorts.

Don't forget to check out best European cities to visit in shoulder season if you want even fewer crowds, though summer is beautiful in the Cyclades if you pick the smaller islands.

Koufonisia is lovely, but for true seclusion, rent a small boat and explore the tiny islets around it. You can find your own private cove easily.

I highly recommend Alonissos in the Sporades. Renting a boat gives you access to hidden pebble beaches that are completely empty even in August.

For the mainland, the Mani Peninsula has some hidden gems. Look for small coves near Limeni; they are stunning and much quieter than the islands.

Pack a dry bag, a snorkel, and high-SPF sunscreen. You never know when you'll find a spot with no shade, so a portable beach umbrella is a lifesaver.

If you enjoy active travel, you might find some inspiration for your next trip in these Best Hiking Trails in the Swiss Alps for Beginners, though for Greece, stick to the coastal paths of Milos for the best secluded swimming holes.

Agistri is a great quick getaway from Athens. If you hike through the pine forests, you'll find some rocky coves that are very peaceful.

Try searching for 'hidden beaches' on Google Maps in the Pelion region. The coastline is dramatic and full of secluded spots accessible only by narrow trails.

Don't rely on public buses if you want total seclusion. Renting a scooter or a small boat is the best way to reach the 'secret' spots.

I always bring a pair of water shoes. Many of the quietest, most beautiful beaches in Greece are pebbly, and your feet will thank you!

Anafi is the place to be if you want to escape the tourist trail. It's quiet, rugged, and the beaches are pristine. Just be prepared for the hike down!
