Best budget-friendly European destinations for a first-time backpacker?

I am planning my first solo backpacking trip across Europe this summer and I am looking for suggestions on countries that won't break the bank. I want to experience great culture and nightlife without spending a fortune on accommodation or food. Does anyone have recommendations for affordable cities, preferably in Eastern or Central Europe? Any tips on how to keep costs low while traveling would also be greatly appreciated.

Definitely check out Budapest, Hungary. It's legendary for its ruin bars and the thermal baths are super affordable. You can eat well for very cheap if you stick to local spots away from the main tourist streets.

Krakow, Poland is a must. The history is incredible, the city center is beautiful, and your money goes a long way there. Plus, the nightlife in the Jewish Quarter is vibrant and very budget-friendly.

Consider Sofia, Bulgaria. It is one of the cheapest capitals in Europe. It has a cool underground scene and the mountains are just a short bus ride away if you want a change of pace.

Prague is popular for a reason, but if you want to save money, look for hostels a few tram stops away from the Old Town. Also, drink the local beer—it's often cheaper than bottled water!

Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina is an underrated gem. The culture is a fascinating mix of East and West, the food is hearty and cheap, and the locals are incredibly welcoming to solo travelers.

For low costs, travel by bus instead of trains where possible using FlixBus. Also, always look for 'free walking tours' in each city; they are a great way to learn the history and meet other backpackers.

Bucharest, Romania has a really underrated nightlife scene and the city is very affordable for a capital. Just be sure to use official taxi apps or public transport to avoid getting overcharged.

My top tip for budget travel: buy groceries at local supermarkets for breakfast and lunch, then treat yourself to a nice dinner out. It saves a ton of money over a two-week trip!
